It pleases me to?no end to see how many people and businesses are promoting environmentally safe or recyclabe products.
One way we can all do our part is to use our own bags, canvas or other types, for groceries and other purchases. Does it ever strike you as bizarre that if you go into, say, Staples, and buy a pen, they put it in a plastic bag? That's just nuts. What a crazy custom! No matter what we buy, they put it in a plastic bag, even if it is one item that easily fits in a purse? That's not really the point, though, the point is that the plastic bag is just creating more waste.
Some people reading this are saying, "Oh, but plastic is recyclable. Well, it's time for a reality check. We all know that not all plastic products actually are recycled. Sadly, very sadly, only a very small percentage ever get recycled, and even that takes energy, which we don't have to spare.
I digress. This post is about 'the perfect gift.' Last Christmas, my sister-in-law gave me two large canvas bags. I think they came from L.L. Bean, so they were probably pricey for canvas bags, but these bags are virtually indestructable, and I love my canvas bags. They are so much more efficient and convenient?than plastic bags.
First of all, I can really fill them up without having to worry that they will break. You should see the stitching on those seams! Second, they hold so much more per bag. And third, they are constructed so that they stand up on their own, making them much easier to fill. I love my bags! Thank you, Judy!
So, next time you need to get a gift for someone, think about giving them some nice canvas shopping bags. These bags will last me for twenty years, I'm sure. And you will be helping them help the environment. ?
If you're still using plastic or paper, check out the attached Power Point. You'll be searching for?canvas bags next time?you go to the store for sure.?
